How do I get to Furneaux Lodge?
Walk or mountain bike (Mar-Nov) the Queen Charlotte Track to our back gate, take a scheduled water taxi from Picton or bring your private boat (moorings are available). Or, arrive by helicopter from Wellington, Nelson, Kaikōura and Christchurch and land on our lawn.

How long is the walk from Ship Cove/Meretoto to Furneaux Lodge?

How long is the walk from Furneaux Lodge to Punga Cove?

Can I drive to Furneaux Lodge?
No – there are no roads to the lodge. The easiest and quickest way to get here is by water taxi from Picton. We strongly recommend our sister company, Cougar Line. You can also walk or mountain bike to Furneaux Lodge on the Queen Charlotte Track.

Can I eat at the Furneaux Restaurant for lunch or dinner if I’m not an overnight guest?
Definitely – the Furneaux Restaurant is a popular day destination for visitors and locals alike. To make getting here and back from Picton easy, book Cougar Line’s Cruise & Lunch.

What food is available at Furneaux Lodge?
The Furneaux Restaurant is open for breakfast from 8am - 10am, lunch is from 12pm - 3pm and dinner is 6pm -9pm. The à la carte menus change depending on the season, offering a range of fresh local dishes that cater for most dietary preferences and restrictions.

Is there a shop?
We sell some basic supplies, such as sunblock, batteries, snacks and toiletries, at the Furneaux Restaurant & Bar. However, if you’re after a selection of goods, we suggest purchasing in Picton or Blenheim townships prior to arrival.

What is there to do at Furneaux Lodge?
Our location in Endeavour Inlet is the perfect place to explore our stunning natural surroundings. Lodge guests have the use of kayaks, paddleboards (SUPs), and some sports equipment to use on our expansive lawn.
Explore the Queen Charlotte Track, which is directly outside our gate, by foot or hire a mountain bike from us (Mar-Nov). Or, simply relax on the beach, in the hot tub or one of the many hammocks, or at the restaurant and bar.

How long is the boat ride from Picton to Furneaux Lodge?
If you are coming direct, the journey takes around an hour. Water taxis may take an hour and a half depending on the number of stops they make along the way. See Cougar Line’s daily schedule for more information.

Can I get cellphone reception and wifi at Furneaux Lodge?
Wifi is available at the restaurant and bar, however due to our isolated location in the outer Marlborough Sounds, the connection can be limited and at times unreliable.
There is no cellphone reception in our area of the Sounds.
While we are working hard to improve our wifi signal, we advise our guests to take the opportunity to switch off, relax and enjoy the beautiful surrounds. We have a landline and email at reception if anyone needs to get hold of you.

Do you have portacots and highchairs?
Yes – please request these when you book.

Do you have a mooring for my boat?
Yes. Moorings are available free of charge for guests staying with us or eating in the restaurant during meal services. There is a $25 charge per mooring per night if staying on mooring overnight.
A tender service may be available (weather dependant) We monitor VHF 63 – please give us a call before you arrive.

What’s the weather like?
The Marlborough Sounds has a temperate, generally mild climate. However, our weather can change very suddenly and we always advise guests to bring appropriate clothing including a raincoat, warm layers and sun hat, especially if you are walking the Queen Charlotte Track.

Can I bring my dog?
Dogs are welcome at Furneaux Lodge, provided they are kept on a lead at all times and remain outdoors during your time here. The owner is responsible for picking up and disposing of any droppings.

Can I transfer from Furneaux Lodge to Punga Cove by boat?
Yes – either catch a daily scheduled water taxi, or talk to us at reception about whether our lodge boat is available.

What if I have to cancel or postpone my booking?
There is no charge for cancellations 8 or more days before your intended stay. See our terms and conditions for more information, including Covid-19 related travel bans.

Can I bring my own food and beverages?
Yes. All rooms (except Hiker’s Cabins) have coffee and tea facilities and a mini fridge.

Are the rooms secure?
All rooms are lockable and guests are provided with keys.

Are your rooms wheelchair accessible?
Our Endeavour Suites and two Junior Tobias Suites are suitable for wheelchairs. Our Cook’s Cottages and Hiker’s Cabins are not as easily accessible.
